"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."1
You’d be hard pressed to find a better description of our great God. There’s so much here that it kind of overwhelms me. And yet it’s one of my favorite verses in the whole Bible.
First of all, there’s the word “holy.” As in no sin. Total perfection.
Then there’s the fact that “holy” is mentioned three times. It might be a stretch, but I’m betting that refers to the Trinity. That is, there’s one God, but three persons (all of whom are holy) who make up that one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Then there’s the word, “almighty.” As in all-powerful. For those of you who like fancy multi-syllable words, He’s omnipotent.
Then there’s the phrase, “who was, and is, and is to come.” In other words, God is eternal. He’s always existed, exists now, and will always exist.
Why do I share this with you? Because I’m in awe of our great God today. Why He continues to use a knucklehead like me I’ll never know. Today, despite my propensity to sin, despite my iffy health and despite a sometimes questionable attitude, He just keeps working through me.
If you had seen what he did through me this morning you’d know what I mean. He is, indeed, a miracle worker.
So, no funny stories or even embarrassing moments from my life today. Today, let’s just focus on how awesome our heavenly Father is.
Read the verse again. And, if necessary, again. Get it into your head. Maybe even memorize it. Then think about what it means and let it wash over your soul.
And then, well, maybe you’ll do what I did. I worshipped.
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

1John 5:20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true -even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
