I don’t feel like writing today. Do you have a problem with that?
My excuse is lame: I just don’t want to. So don’t even try and make me. I’ve made up my mind and that’s that.
Aren’t you glad Jesus isn’t lazy, irresponsible and a slacker like me? Aren’t you glad Christ is on the job 24-7? I know I am.
Check out this description of our Lord:
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”1
Some really good stuff, but did you notice the last sentence? Jesus not only created the visible and invisible universe, He’s also currently holding it all together. Without Him, the universe would not “hold together.”
Not exactly sure what that means, but it tells me that Christ is on the job. As in right now. As in all the time.
I say again, I sure am glad Jesus isn’t lazy, irresponsible and a slacker like me. If I decide not to write, who cares? (Well, my mom will probably be disappointed, but that’s about the only real consequence.)
But if Christ decides to stop being the glue for our universe and our lives, we’re finished. As in no more universe, no more earth, and no more me.
Oh, and no more you.
I don’t mean to be condescending or overly dramatic, but, hey, you woke up today, right? And you’re breathing and your heart’s beating now, right? And your eyes and brain are working as you read this, right?
Well, how about taking a minute to thank Jesus for all those things. All those things we may take for granted.
Because without Christ’s 24-7 diligence, there’s no more universe, no more earth, and no more me.
Oh, and no more you.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”2
