My heart’s still beating fast.
As the truck approached, I shoved Paula into the grass and did the limbo so the truck’s side view mirror wouldn’t hit me. A few more inches and we both would have been road kill.
For someone who’s been thinking about death recently this was yet another reminder that our time here on earth is limited. And we literally don’t know how long it will last. For Mr. and Mrs. Little it could have been over at approximately 9:30 am eastern standard time.
Yet, later in the day I find myself planning what I’ll do tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that. Apparently I think I’ll still be around in a few days. Maybe, maybe not.
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”1
In light of these sobering yet necessary words, I’m determined to be a little more conscious of my limited time here on earth. For instance, I’ve been savoring sitting on the couch next to my wife more than usual. And this blog has been a labor of love, something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time.
You see, I may not be around tomorrow. Don’t mean to be morbid or foreshadowing some kind of catastrophic event. Just stating a fact.
I’m like “a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” And so are you.
So, in light of these sobering yet necessary words, what do you need to do today, right now? What are you putting off that, well, maybe you shouldn’t put off?
I dodged a truck today, so I get to live a little while longer. How about you?
