The Lord’s “compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”1
Yeah, right.
• Didn’t the computer give me fits this morning? Yep.
• Isn’t my lower back giving me trouble? Yep.
• Don’t I have to work—again—on my day off? Yep.
So where’s the compassion? Where’s the faithfulness?
And then it happened: A deer and her fawn walked into the middle of the road right in front of me.
At that moment, on my early morning walk, God’s compassion was more real than it had been in quite some time. Coming face-to-face with such beautiful animals was a precious gift for a nature lover like myself. His faithfulness brought a smile to my face that still hasn’t left, hours later.
And yet, in my heart I know better. That is, I know God doesn’t need to send a deer and her fawn my way to prove His compassion.
After all…
• Didn’t I wake up this morning? Yep.
• Didn’t He give me a brain to write this blog entry? Yep.
• Didn’t He let me live another day, even though I’ve sinned against His holy name? Yep.
Please don’t be like me and look for some kind of showy display of God’s compassion.
Instead, focus on the basics. Look in the mirror. Check your pulse. And, most of all, remember Jesus’ sacrifice on your behalf.

I never get tired of thanking God for my life, even if it is repetitive. I cannot believe how blessed I am with my husband, family, friends, home, cars, and job. Not to mention the fact that the world is very often a beautiful place with beautiful people.

Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is your faithfulness." I love that we are NOT consumed, for He renews his love and promises to us every day.
