the king of glory

Psalm 24 really spoke to me today. Please take a minute and read it—trust me, it’s worth your time.

1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it;

2 for he founded it upon the seas

and established it upon the waters.

3 Who may ascend the hill of the LORD?

Who may stand in his holy place?

4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,

who does not lift up his soul to an idol

or swear by what is false.

5 He will receive blessing from the LORD

and vindication from God his Savior.

6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,

who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Selah

7 Lift up your heads, O you gates;

be lifted up, you ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in.

8 Who is this King of glory?

The LORD strong and mighty,

the LORD mighty in battle.

9 Lift up your heads, O you gates;

lift them up, you ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in.

10 Who is he, this King of glory?

The LORD Almighty—

he is the King of glory.1

Verses 1-2

Ever wonder who made the earth? The Lord. Ever wonder who “owns” the earth? The Lord.

Verses 3-6

Can just anyone approach the sinless Lord and be blessed? No. Only those who have “clean hands and” pure” hearts, who don’t "lift up” their souls “to an idol,” and who don’t “swear by what is false.”

Translated, only those who are without sin can be blessed and approach God.

Verses 7-10

“Who is” the “King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle… The LORD Almighty—he is the King of glory” (emphasis added).

No surprise here, right? After all, “the earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” And let’s not forget that in order to approach Creator God we must be without sin.

“The LORD Almighty—he is the King of glory.”

"how majestic is your name!"

I thought you might be more interested in hearing from the Lord today vs. me. This Psalm ministered to me and I hope it ministers to you as well, my friend.

“O LORD, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

From the lips of children and infants

you have ordained praise

because of your enemies,

to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

the son of man that you care for him?

You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands;

you put everything under his feet:

all flocks and herds,

and the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air,

and the fish of the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!”1
